I think it's wrong to only offer it as a one time freebie and here are a few reasons why:
1. Making it available for a limited period forces players to decide within a small timeframe, be it a month or more, it's still pressure.
2. It forces people to use the online store, when they maye not want to. Call me old fashioned but I like a box, dvd and manual when I buy a game. Some people may have bought every GW game, yet can't use th eonline store due to financial reasons, so where's the option for them?
3. ArenaNet and NCSoft make more cash through the online store, as they don't have to pay stores to distribute their item, and by making it an online exclusive, people are mor elikely to purchase items they don't need just to qualify, and then they continue to buy through the store, so it's a win-win situation for the companies involved.
4. There really is no reason not to release it, considering a very large portion of the GW population bought their games through retail stores, and they would probably feel left out and angry at the prospect of having to use the online store. It makes sense to release the pack at a nominal price.
All those people who moan about the fact it should stay exclusive, and that it's "their" bonus for using the store, are wrong. That's just selfish talk, trying to deny something that should be free in the first place. Heck, it's not an expantion, its exactly what the name imples; a bonus, and, as far as I'm aware, are usually free in most cases.
ANet, do the decent thing and reward the throngs of loyal players you have gained over the past 2 years or so, and just release the BMP. If you don't want to make it free, at least be genuine with the pricing.

Wow. This whole discussion is utter absurdity.
Look, folks, it's all rather simple: Anet created a "But wait there's more" bonus for folks who chose to purchase ANYTHING through the online store. Some folks took advantage of the opportunity, and are very pleased with their choices. Others, for reasons wholly irrelevant to the discussion, chose not to take advantage of the opportunity, and are now regretting their choice.
Sorry, but those of you calling for the BMP to be released to everyone have totally reinforced the concept of the whiny brat gamer having a temper tantrum. I've read much of this thread, and have yet to see one post that doesn't boil down to "wah for me, it's so unfair."
Welcome to the real wolrd. It isn't fair. Some people have access to it, and some people don't. Some people have access to Nightfall - those who paid for it - and some don't. The BMP was no different that one tire retailer offering one tire with the purchase of three when another retailer didn't.
And I'm sorry; if you couldn't afford to spend thirty bucks over the course of the month or so the offer was valid, them maybe you should rethink your priorites a little. No credit card? Then you again need to rethink your priorites.
Plainly put, and I care not who this irritates: You Missed The Opportunity. Get over it and move on. It's over. Just like that cute one you never kissed when you were in school. Move on.
And for those who say, "you don't want others playing with your toys" Hey, guess what - you're damned right. Those of us who have the BMP did so by taking an opportunity that you didn't. Why should you get something you didn't earn? Why does making it available for sale now matter to you if you didn't spend the money then? Sour grapes, mayhap?
Everyone, move on. If you got the BMP, enjoy it. If you missed the BMP, I'm sorry for you, but you missed your chance for something different. Maybe you won't so blithely dismiss another such opportunity later on.
Everyone had the SAME opportunity to purchase what was needed for the BMP. Some chose to, others chose differently. That's what it boils down to, and now, all of a sudden, when people are talking the BMP up, those who missed it run screaming to Anet about how unfair it all is. Un-real.

My complaint isn't about the weapons even... I expected the BMP to be for sale or promo again WHEN I could get it purchased somehow... I never did see verbage that said "This is a once in a lifetime offer!"
I wanted the missions for the historical lore sake...
I wanted to know what happened to Gwen and Togo and etc...
It would be sad if we never got a 2nd opportunity to get the BMP "somehow"...

As for the bmp skins compared to the eotn skins, I can understand that, having both. However, which skin looks better still varies from person to person. But sometimes things look good simply because you can't have it.
|
No, but I'm fairly sure that is was my banks anti-fraud stuff that I've dealt with for other online purchases that probably could have been fixed by calling them up and telling them to allow the transaction. But yeah, I really didn't care that much so I just drove to the store and bought it. At the time I didn't care about the BMP and I still wouldn't buy it even if it were made available for separate purchase. I just find it kind of dumb that they would put so much effort and detail into these bonus weapon skins and give us reskins, and rehashes, etc. in eotn.

You had to spend $29 to unlock the BMP, so why would you sell it for any cheaper than that? That's unfair to the individuals who made purchases just for the BMP.

Actually, it's the opposite. It's the people that have the BMP who are whining because they don't want this to happen. Why? Selfishness. That's all there is to it, seeing as it in no way negatively effects them. At all.

Nobody in their right mind would spent that on a bonus. I think after buying all four games, and playing for almost two years, I deserve, as a player, to get this for free no?

You didn't pay $29 for the BMP, it merely served as an incentive to spend $29 in the online store. Unfair? There's plenty of unfair stuff in life, you have to get used to it.

Frankly, dan, I can understand their point: They acted when others didn't. Why should the last people to get to the show have access to the great seats? You snooze, you lose.
As far as I'm concerned: You can't see the BMP items, nor transfer them, so there's no effect on the game economy. You can't do the missions with anyone else; they're solo. And whatever someone else does with it doesn't effect me wither way.
So on one level, yeah, the folks who have the BMP deserve to be a little smug; they struck when the iron was hot.
But tbh, if Anet chooses to sell it, then choose to sell it. Won't affect me one way or the other, other than the revenue tey generate will keep the game around a little longer.

/signed Personally wouldn't mind paying for it at all (being forced to buy additional items I might not need in order to get it is just stupid). Especially since they have no content planned for the next two years due to working on GW2. Honestly, why wouldn't Anet want extra money in their pockets?? Would help to put some extra funds into GW2. Extra money is never a bad thing. Unless of course you suck at saving it.

I would probably pay 29 $ for the BMP on the Online store. Comes to about 20 €. It would be fair to everyone who used the limited time offer and got an early start with the BMP but also would give everyone the chance to purchase it in the future too.

For the very reason I explained in my post. We didn't know what we were getting, if anything. Personally, I'm not overly fussed weather or not I can get these items, or else I would have simply bought a few new character slots.
But as I've explained, I don't want or need those slots and was unwilling to waste money on them, for the chance of getting, what could have been a handful of reskins. Surprisingly, it the BMP actually gives us some decent things. I don't regret not buying it when I had the chance, because I think my choice was more sensible then the "hope and prey" routine. But I see no reason why the rest of us shouldn't have the opportunity to get this stuff at a later date.
Sorry to break it to you, but your input here is just as ridiculous as everyone elses.

Well that sucks for you, but once again, how is that fair to the individuals who spent money unlocking character slots ect in order just to unlock the BMP? You guys are all just a bunch complainers.

Exactly. So people need to quit complaining that they want the BMP that they didn't earn or qualify for.

Finally, we're getting somewhere. It in no way affects the player who has the BMP. The only argument against this petition is "no we have better weapon skins than you so we can brag" argument.
Great, you say the weapon skins don't effect economy? So? I love how 90% of the people with the BMP are only talking about weapon skins. Some of us, might ya know.. play it for the missions and the enjoyment. Why deny us that?
I, to be honest, never even thought "oh i'll buy GW:EN from the online store to unlock the BMP". Call me a blind retard.. i don't care. But it wasn't a choice. If i knew before i went and bought GW:EN the day it was released "oh actually i can buy it from the online store (which i'd never even been on, nor do i have payment options available) then i can get a cool new mission pack that ANET actually might put effort into". But i honestly, didn't know that. My fault? Yes. Was it a deliberate choice? No. So that's slightly harsh, dontcha think?
I'd love to play this BMP.. yes, play it. Play it for the actual enjoyment, the fresh new missions. The very fact that most people now are just bragging about their new weapons shows what immature players a fee-free game attracts.

How is it fair to you? Well because they could release it for the same price you spent in the store? $29 was it? Sure you'll get the whiners who want it cheap(er), but atleast the option is there. I, for one would be willing to spend that much as i really want to play the BMP. You, however, being another selfish brat "hey i took the promotion you didn't tough shit OMG LOOKATMYNEWTOYS" can't find a decent valid argument as to why we can't enjoy the BMP.

I bought junk on the online store expecting the BMP to be crap. Turns out it's pretty freakin' sweet. So tough noogies.
For those of you still whining, this is one of those things in life we call a "missed opportunity". It just happened to you and it will eventually happen again. It happens. That's life.

I pre ordered GWEN LONG LONG LONGGGGGGGGGG before the BMP was announced, and if I did full pay, it feels unfair that I can't buy this.
It'd be a good idea too, more money.

For those just joining us, a thread summary.
The BMP is out. Some folks have it. Some folks want it. No one's saying anything new. There's a lot of ranting from both sides. Not only are the rants ridiculous, but the anti-rants are ridiculous, the uncle-rants are ridiculous, and all the little cousin-rants are ridiculous.
And at the end of the day, not one iota of any of this will matter. Anet will do what they choose to do.
EDIT: typos.
